Are we the only ones who love to warm up with a glass of red wine in the fall season? Of course not! That’s why we’re inviting everyone who shares our preferences to join us at August, a highly rated wine bar and eatery that’s perfect for wine lovers living in New Haven.

This dimly lit spot is only open in the evenings, which makes it an excellent choice for a date night. Navi C. on Yelp notes that, “After a cold walk we were greeted by this cozy bar. A true jewel amid the zirconia, it’s rare and almost vintage looking like it belonged in Paris during the Impressionism Era but able to feel at home in New Haven. You can’t help but feel whimsical walking up to the door, all worries, fears, and nerves left outside. Once inside you don’t notice that there are no open seats because you are so absorbed and distracted by its charm. It has a simple and rustic look but everything looks like it was meticulously set in place.” If that description doesn’t make you want to be there when their doors open, we’re at a loss to imagine what will!

August is just over a mile away from our apartments in New Haven so you’re looking at about a five-minute drive. It might even be worth heading there right after work one evening, as Yelp reviewer Theresa R. notes, “August isn’t really meant to be a dinner destination, from my perspective – they have several fantastic small plates like cheese [and] charcuterie, almonds and deviled eggs (all of which were delicious) but not really enough to fill you up in my estimation.” Pair a small plate with a glass or two of wine – and perhaps a special someone sharing your table AND the moment (optional) – et voilà: you’ve discovered a superb way to unwind in the evening.
