On September 17th, 2014 Forest City hosted a one-night exhibit at Reynold’s Fine Art, featuring pre-renovation photography of the Winchester factory by Ramsey Bakhoum and sculptures by Susan Clinard. New Haven favorites, Meat & Co. and 116 Crown catered the event and The Wine Thief supplied a wonderful assortment of craft beer and wine.

Event attendees were not only able to view the artwork, but were also able to speak with the artists who played such a huge role in preserving this New Haven legacy. Susan mentioned finding inspiration for her sculptures from the people of New Haven, people who have worked or had family who worked in the factory and the stories she got to hear while working on her Winchester pieces.

“This is by far the best commission I’ve ever worked on. It is truly my work and it’s telling the story of the people of New Haven – part of our long history.”  -Susan Clinard

We also welcomed New Haven historian, Robert S. Greenberg, who New Haven Independent quoted saying:

“The magnitude of the buildings is that they are bigger than New Haven—these are the buildings that manufactured the guns that won the west-they contained the humanity that helped build our society and are as important as any museum.” More from New Haven Independent here: Before Makeover, Artists Preserve Winchester Legacy

If you were unable to attend the event, all of the exhibition pieces that were on display (plus more!) will be featured in the common areas at Winchester Lofts to continue to commemorate history and tell the Winchester story. For those interested in seeing the progress of the building, there is a model unit finished and leasing agents are beginning to give hard hat tours of the Winchester Lofts property. The next open house is Saturday, Oct. 4th from 10:30am-3:30pm. You can visit the Winchester Lofts website or call to schedule an appointment 866-736-5770.
